Histoire de la distillerie de Clynelish
Entre 1967 et 1969, DCL construit une deuxième distillerie sur le site de Clynelish, à côté d'une distillerie également nommée Clynelish.
En 1967-69, DCL construisit une deuxième distillerie, également nommée Clynelish, afin de profité de la réputation de la première. La période 1969-75 est très confuse et plusieurs versions existent. La version la plus précise semble la suivante :
La nouvelle distillerie de Clynelish fut inaugurée en août 1967 et les deux distilleries fonctionnèrent en parallèle jusqu’en août 1968, lorsque la vieille distillerie fut fermée. A l’interne, les distilleries étaient dénommées Clynelish A (la nouvelle) et Clynelish B (la vieille). Lors de cette période, les produits de ces deux distilleries furent libellés « Clynelish » et la Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) força la DCL de changer le nom d’une des deux distilleries. Le propriétaire décida de changer le nom de la vieille distillerie en Brora, nom qu’elle aurait portée pendant de courtes périodes préalablement.
Entre 1969 et 1983, les deux distilleries fonctionnèrent en parallèle. Pour compenser la production de la distillerie de Caol Ila (1969-1974), le malt est tourbé a environ 45 ppm pendant la période 1970-77. Depuis 1983, seule la "nouvelle" distillerie de Clynelish est en opération. Depuis sa création en 1967, la distillerie est toujours restée au mains du même propriétaire.
