History

Former distillery manager at Mortlach distillery, William Grant bought a pair of second hand stills from the owner of the old Cardow distillery and started the construction of the distillery in September 1886. On Christmas day 1887 ran the first spirit of the William and Sons Glenfiddich distillery. In 1903, the distillery was registered under the name of William Grant & Sons ltd. During the Great War, the distillery stopped production in 1917 and resumed production in May 1919. In 1957, to differentiate their product from the competition, Glenfiddich launched the triangle-shaped bottle, which is still the "trade mark" of Glenfiddich nowdays. Since its creation, Glenfiddich has always remained the property of the same Grant family. Of note, the Grant family owning the distillery of Glenfarclas is not the same as the one owning Glenfiddich.
